Spouses Tonya and Nikolay live in the village. A woman works at a bakery, a man is looking for work at a construction site or a stable. One day a black cat runs between them. They are destined to find peace of mind on the other side of the lake, where the rich live. Nikolai has feelings for the Muscovite Alina, and Tonya fell in love with the owner of the stable. What will come of this, and will at least one be able to stay together?
